Hugh Douglas (Revolutionary Army), m. Catherine Nasmythe in England (his
cousin)
He was Brigadier General of the 6th Brigade of Militia, and died
about December 1815 when his successor was appointed.
He was 'called
out on 24th August for the defence of Washington'.
A descendant of Sir
James Douglas of Kelhead, he was the son of
Captain
William Douglas (-1783) & Elizabeth Offutt [Lewis]. (1)
He married
Catherine Nasmythe, b. Abt 1765 and had :
1. Charles Douglas, married Waterman ; no issue. 2. Lewis Fordyce Douglas ; no issue.
3. Archibald N. Douglas, born 1812; died 1892; married Elizabeth Ross, born 1820. died 1900. and had Mary Broomfield, Catherine Nasmythe, and Ann Hugh. The last two are spinsters
[living in] Charlottesville, Virginia.
Notes: 1. According to Col. John Wise of England and Virginia (1617-1695) by C. Jennings Wise, Dr. Patrick Hume Douglas, son of Col. William Douglas and Sarah Orrick, was educated for the medical profession. He lived for a while on the parental estate of "Montressor" in Loudoun, his older half-brother. Gen.
