Douglas Honeysuckle, scientifically known as Lonicera glaucescens, appears to be a variation of Lonicera dioica, commonly called Limber Honeysuckle.

The varietal name douglasii for Lonicera dioica var. douglasii honours David Douglas (1799–1834), the renowned Scottish botanist and plant collector.

Douglas was a prolific explorer who made several expeditions to North America, particularly the Pacific Northwest, during the 19th century. He introduced numerous plant species to cultivation in Britain and Europe, fundamentally changing horticulture and forestry. Over eighty species of plants and animals have "douglasii" in their scientific names as a tribute to his extensive contributions to botany.
