Count Carl Robert Douglas, born on April 24, 1880, in Konstanz, Baden,
was a Swedish count, courtier, and estate owner. He was the son of
Marshal of the Realm Count Ludvig Douglas
and Countess Anna Ehrensvärd.
Douglas pursued agricultural studies at Bjärka-Säby, in Hohenheim,
Württemberg, and at the University of Freiburg in Baden. He became the
holder of the entail estates Langenstein in 1908 and Mühlhausen in 1916.
In 1908, Douglas was appointed chamberlain to the queen. He held
several significant positions, including chairman of the Badische
Grundherrnverein in 1919, chairman of the Grundbesitzerverbund the same
year, member of the Baden Agricultural Chamber in 1921, and its chairman
in 1925.
He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the
University of Heidelberg in 1922, became chairman of the German
Agricultural Society in 1924, member of the German Agricultural Council
in 1925, board member there in 1926, curator at the Kaiser Wilhelm
Institute for Biochemistry in 1926, and at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute
for Heredity Research in 1928. He also served on the board of the Rhine
Mortgage Bank in 1926 and the Baden State Bank in 1927.
He married (1) 11 August 1906 Ordrup
(Div.1938) Sophia de Fine Blaauw, daughter of Dick Blaauw and Marie de Fine von Krogh Beyer
Robert
Douglas, in his second marriage, from 1938, was married to the
Portuguese Dowager Queen Augusta Victoria of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen.
He died on August 26, 1955.
