Carl Fredrik Wilhelm Archibald Douglas was born on May 5, 1965, in
Lidingö Parish, Stockholm County. He is a Swedish count, financier, and
diver.
Carl Douglas is the son of financier Count Gustaf Douglas
and Elisabeth Douglas (née von Essen), the grandson of Ambassador
Count Carl Douglas, the older brother
of Eric Douglas, and the maternal grandson of Eric von Essen.
He
earned a Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College in 1988. As a diver,
he has appeared in the series 'The Wreck Hunters' on Swedish Television
and co-authored the book 'Wrecks in the Baltic Sea'. In 2003, he located
the Swedish reconnaissance aircraft, a DC-3, which had been shot down by
Soviet fighter planes in 1952 and had been missing since. The search for
the DC-3 led to the Catalina Affair.
Through investigations of
the Baltic Sea floor, Carl Douglas has located several previously
unknown wrecks from both ancient and modern history, such as the warship
'Svärdet' and SMS 'Prinz Adalbert'.
Carl Douglas owns and manages
Rydboholm Estate together with his family. He is a board member of
several companies, including Investment AB Latour, Assa Abloy, and
Boxholms Skogar. Through his company Vargtornet, he owns 24 percent of
both the capital and voting rights in Wasatornet, the family's
management company. In 2014, he was ranked 29th on the list of Sweden's
billionaires by 'Veckans Affärer', sharing the spot with his brother
Eric Douglas.
Carl Douglas founded the Voice of the Ocean
Foundation in 2019 and serves as the chairman of the board.
