On 14 May 1689, The Cameronians mustered

The Earl of Angus's Regiment of Foot (the Cameronians) was mustered at Douglas, Lanarkshire. It was commanded in the field by Lieutenant-Colonel William Cleland and was the largest regiment raised in support of the Revolution of William and Mary, with 1,200 men in two battalions. The regiment's baptism of fire would come at the battle of Dunkeld when they held off the Jacobite army.

In 1719, under cover of a naval bombardment a landing party from Royal Navy warships Worcester and Enterprise attacked and captured Eilean Donan Castle and took the Spanish garrison prisoner during the Jacobite Rising of 1719.
