  	After some years of ill-health, she died in Rome shortly after the birth of their sixth child [which one?], on 2nd April 1830.

  	There exists a possibility that her body was not returned to Asby. Dr. Rachel Adie-Rhodes suggests that 'Margaret had in fact been laid to rest in Naples, rather than being transported back to Castle Ashby. The family, which at this point included Margaret's mother, and certainly younger sister (possibly Anna Jane, too) returned with the 2nd Marquess and the 6 children to Castle Ashby soon after Margaret's death, but I don't have any specific travel documentation to prove that. '

  Margaret Douglas MacLean Clephane's long name is the result of her father inheriting three different estates from his father, mother and wife. But Margaret can hardly have known him, as he died abroad when she was a child, and the estate which was most important to the surviving family was her mother's clan lands in Mull, where the family lived, worked, and drew their identity. Margaret was a poet, and her husband had some of her work printed posthumously. They are available on-line. The Clephane sisters were wards of writer Walter Scott - Why?
