- There is an Irene Mariman that fits the age, place, and in the censusrecords plus an Irene DeKezel in the Social Security Records of theappropriate age and place. And since this is the stated name by thefamily of the mother/grandmother in this family line, then it would besafe to conclude that this is the proper spelling of the name thatsounds like--Merriman to the family. Also, the wedding anniversaryarticle does give her maiden name as Mariman as well.; 25 February2009-Update: Mariman is the correct spelling as per her obituary.

Irene C. DeKezel, 83, Geneseo, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, at herhome. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Saint Malachy’sCatholic Church. The Rev. Michael Pakula will officiate. Burial willbe in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m.Friday at the Myers Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Homes, Geneseo,where a parish rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Memorialsmay be given to St. Malachy’s Church Building Fund or the AmericanCancer Society. Irene Mariman was born Nov. 10, 1915, in Annawan, thedaughter of Edward and Hortense Dumolien Mariman. She was raised andeducated in Annawan, graduating from Annawan High School. She marriedEdward DeKezel on April 3, 1937, in Annawan. He died on Oct. 12,1993. She farmed with her husband in Munson Township and the Oscoarea until retiring in 1985, when they moved to Geneseo. She was amember of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church and Circle 14 of the Altar andRosary Society. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose,Geneseo. She loved spending time with her family and friends andplaying bingo and cards. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law,Marilyn and John Blair, Moline, Maxine and Ronald Swanson, Cambridge,and Debra and Merle Muller, Sioux City, Iowa; sons and adaughter-in-law, David and Christine DeKezel, Cambridge, and MarkDeKezel, Geneseo; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; andsisters, Irma and Elma Rakestraw, both of Annawan. She was precededin death, in addition to her husband, by three sisters.”
