  According to Dexters of the Delaware Valley by Eldred and Popliarz George was the son of Jonathan and Jennett (Seymour) Dexter born 9/30/1832 d. 4/22/1908. He was called "Maumee" after a river in Ohio. 1870 census shows George Dexter in Damascus at age 37 Roll 1464, p.108. It also shows a George Dexter m. to "Mercy" (I have seen the name Mercy Skinner in genealogy lists several times.) Dexter name meant a dyer in Old English. Marie Case's notes showed George possibly married to Emma Skinner. It is thought she may have been related to the Canfields - could they have meant the Calkins? She recalled the name Ida Blake Calkins as being in the family tree somewhere. The 1860 census shows a George Dexter, age 25, living in Damascus next door to Moses Calkins. LDS Ancestral file 4.17 lists a George W. Dexter b. 1839 Wayne Co., PA m. Helen Skinner b. 8/23/1843 in Wayne Co., PA. Helen was the daughter of Albro Skinner, son of Nathan Skinner and Sarah Calkins. Sarah d. 1854 in Cochecton, Sullivan Co., NY. Many notes on the Skinner family who were early pioneers of the Delaware valley. Dave Skinner of Tallahassee, FL, skinnerd@gossimer.nettally.com, is researching Helen above. Their children were Albro, Richard R., Mary Celestia, and Georgia Dexter. From "The Skinner Kinsmen" by Mrs. Gordon Wahl. She lists as a reference Mrs. R.R.Beegle of Middletown, NY. This line is carried down to George and Helen's son Albro, to Melvin L. Dexter and Robert M. Dexter. There is likely a relationship of George to Warren Case's wife, Lura Dexter from Damascus, Wayne Co., PA but not yet proven. Warren and George appear on the same 1870 census page. 1850 Census shows Jonathan Dexter with a son, George age 19. Jonathan was 49 at the time. The Glen Cove Cemetery listing shows: George Dexter 9/30/1832 - 4/22/1908 his wife Augusta 8/21/1841 - June 4, 1915 their son Fred O. Dexter 1/23/1880 - Mar 18, 1904
