• Notes

  William was educated at The Citadel and the University of Virginia. He was a teacher in Abbeville, South Carolina until May '61 when he joined the 2nd Reg't of South Carolina Vols (C. S. A.); and was wounded at Manassas, Virginia. He became Inspector General under General J. B. Kershaw. He was a prisoner twice. He taught at Mt. Zion school in Winnsboro, until 1869 when he took up mercantile life.
