I [1302]. His death date is not recorded. He died before the 24 May 1302 (date of writ). Thomas his son, aged 12 [at the feast of the Nativity] of St. John the Baptist, 30 Edw. I, is his next heir. Matthew campaigned intermittently 1258 - March1300/1 in service of Henry III and Edward I of England against the French, Scots, and Welsh; m. 1st by 31 May 1268 Helisant, a relative of Henry III; m. 2nd Maud Poyntz, and d. by 24 May 1302. [Burke'sPeerage] (Research):Some source show that he married Alice de Hastings, daughter and heiress of Robert de Hastings (d.circa 1190), feudal baron of Little Easton in Essex, However, here we show that it was his grandfather who made that match, thus bringing the Essex estates into the family, which were handed down to the Douglases.
