  Joyce Lorraine Elkins Clore has Nancy's birth date as 1814; However,in the 1850 Indiana Federal Census for Montgomery County she is listedas being born in 1816. 1821-1858 "The State of Missouri was organized in 1821 and JosephRobidoux established the Blacksnake Hills trading post with theIndians in 1826. Robidoux's trading post soon became a fur-tradingempire stretching to the southern Rocky Mountains. The Platte Purchasejoined his land to the state of Missouri in 1837. Ideally situated,Robidoux's trading post became the City of St. Joseph in 1843 andremained relatively small until the discovery of gold in California in1848 which greatly altered and accelerated westward migration. St.Joseph became the head water for the journey west as hundreds ofthousands of settlers arrived by steamboat and hundreds of wagontrains lined the streets waiting to be ferried across the MissouriRiver.
