William Douglas, Provost of Forfar

An ancestor of the family of Douglas of Brigton, in the parish of Kinnettles, son of Dr Robert Douglas, Bishop of Brechin, himself a grandson of Sir Archibald Douglas of Glenbervie.

Daughter:

• Margaret Douglas = John Smith, 2nd of Smithfield.  Through their only child, Catherine, the estate devolved to Major David Fyffe of the Lodge, Broughty Ferry, who married one of the daughters of the late Robert Douglas, senior, of Brigton, a descendant of Dr Robert Douglas, then the Bishop of Dunblane
