Dr Terry Douglas

Dr Terry Douglas is Head of Environmental Management at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Terry is a graduate of the University of Leicester where he completed a BA in Geography before spending two years as a Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) teacher in Grenada, West Indies. He returned to Leicester to take up a NERC studentship and completed his PhD - entitled The Pleistocene Geology and Geomorphology of Western Leicestershire in 1975. Terry joined the staff at Northumbria as a Senior Lecturer in 1978 after holding a lectureship in Liverpool.

He has been active in research in Quaternary environments in Northern England and in using remote sensing to examine agricultural deintensification in the Sierra Nevada of Spain.

Terry finds time to relax at his home in Tynedale where two and a half acres of North Pennine hillside keep him and his Geography-teacher wife Stella busy. He is happiest undertaking garden environmental management projects, growing alpines, fly fishing and talking about wine. Sporting activities revolve around watching his two grown sons play cricket and golf.
