Scotland boss Smith stands by Celtic's Douglas
tribalfootball.com - February 24, 2005

Scotland boss Walter Smith will retain Celtic goalkeeper Rab Douglas in his squad for the looming World Cup qualifier against Italy.

Smith was at Parkhead to witness Douglas's high-profile error in conceding the opening goal of Rangers' 2-0 victory to Gregory Vignal, a mistake which may have placed the 32-year-old's first-team place at Celtic in fresh jeopardy.

"I took four goalkeepers to our squad gathering in Manchester earlier this month and, as I explained to everyone in that group, they are the ones I will take to Italy," Smith said.

"That's what I will do. What I did think with Rab and Neil Sullivan is that they are experienced goalies who complemented the two more inexperienced ones we have. That's all I have said on the goalkeeping situation and that is where it lies."
