On 19th June 1306, The Battle of Methven was foughtThe Battle of Methven took place during the Wars of Scottish Independence. It saw the defeat of the newly crowned King of Scots, Robert the Bruce who had been crowned on 25th of March 1306. The precise location of the battle is not known. Bruce and his men were camped just outside of Perth. In a surprise attack the forces of Edward I of England under the command of Aymer de Vallence swarmed over the camp as it was still being set up. It was a shambles of close hand fighting with both King Robert and de Vallence being unhorsed. The King barely managed to escape but many were killed and captured.Read More
