Aug 25, 1330—The Battle of Teba.

On this day in 1330, Sir James Douglas was slain at The Battle of Teba in Spain whilst fighting the Moors. Sir James was carrying King Robert the Bruce's heart on a crusade to the Holy Land. Legend has it that James through the casket containing Bruce's heart in to his enemies. After the battle, the flesh from James's body was removed and buried in the vicinity of Teba. His bones and his heart were returned to Scotland along with the Bruce's heart. James's skeleton and heart were interred at St Bride's Kirk in Douglas. King Robert the Bruce's heart was buried in Melrose Abbey, Scottish Borders. James was one of Scotland's greatest knights, soldiers and leaders. He was a true patriot of Scotland and he had been very loyal both to his king and his country.
