Mrs. Douglas, beloved mother, teacher and citizen of the
community, died Dec. 30, 2004, at a local hospital.
She was born Aug. 25, 1914, in Pinkston, Texas in Navarro County.
Mrs. Douglas graduated from Jacksonville Baptist College and received her
BA and M.Ed degrees from Stephen F. Austin Teachers College. She founded
the special education department at Jacksonville Independent School
District, where she taught for many years before retiring in 1979 as
director of special services for JISD.
Mrs. Douglas was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of
Jacksonville. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Sigma Phi
Sorority and the ETMC Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh A. "Jack" Douglas; one son,
Everett Newburn Douglas; her seven brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Randall E. Douglas and Hon.
Leta S. Parks of Houston; grandchildren, Jason Douglas and Nathan Douglas
of Fort Worth; and great grandchild, Mallory Douglas of Fort Worth.
