Rev John Douglas, d1768

 

John Douglas, licensed by the Presbytery of Perth 15th June 1740;
admitted to Kenmore 23rd March 1743; translated to Jedburgh 28th July 1758;


 

15th March 1747 - Blair Atholl
The Minister presented a discharge from Mr Douglas, minister of Kenmore, for 3s Sterling, collected at Blair parish for the church at Athmulrie (Amulree?)

 

A vigorous opposition to his settlement gave rise to the Relief Church at Jedburgh.

 

    He married 26th April 1745, Beatrix (died 20th May 1754), daughter of Walter Ainslie, minister of Lundie and Fowlis, and had issue -

  • Robert, DD, born 1747, minister of Galashiels

  • Beatrix, born 8th Dec 1749

  • Arabella, born 23rd Feb. 1751 (married James Hay, minister of Roberton);

  • Walter, Captain (Deputy Adjutant-General), born 20th Feb 1753; killed in India of wounds received in an action on 13th June 1783 with the French.

  •  

 

Rev. John Douglas died on 16th November 1768.
