Ms Janet Douglas CMG was British High Commissioner to Barbados, and non-resident
High Commissioner to Dominica, Grenada, Antigua & Barbuda, St Vincent &
the Grenadines, St Lucia and St Kitts & Nevis from April 2017 to
2020.
Janet Elizabeth Douglas CMG
joined the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in 1985
and following several other appointments, was, in 2016,
Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Ankara.
Born in 1960, she holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Archaeology and Anthropology
from St. Catherine’s College, University of Cambridge. Languages
spoken are English, French, Swedish and Turkish. Her previous positions include Head of
Policy and Performance, HR Directorate at Foreign and Commonwealth
Office, and Head of Southern, Central and West Africa Department, also
at the FCO.
She was appointed Commander of the Order of St
Michael and St George in the 2008 New Year's Honours list in recognition
of her work as Head of Consular Assistance Group, FCO.
She campaigns against violence against women and
girls in Turkey.
Married to Tony Furlong, with two step-children, she is a grand-daughter of one of
Air Marshall Sir William Douglas's brothers
