James Douglas
James Douglas: Born in Dundee 1858, claimed to be self taught artist, with his first exhibition at the age of 16 in Dundee 1874. Later studies in Paris and trips to Bavaria helped form his work A lot of his work was used for postcards of the time, mainly whilst painting from his Edinburgh studio. He moved to the Lake District 1891-95, being based at the Ghyll, Applethwaite, Keswick. It is whilst here that this watercolour would most probably of been painted, as Wensleydale would of been accessible to him without much trouble. He was elected member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in watercolours (RSW) in 1900, in which he stayed a member till 1907.
