Richard Douglass House

This page is a stub - You can help complete it

The house at 79 Green St, New London, was built by Captain Richard Douglass (1746–1828), a cooper, soldier, deacon and politician, was born in New London, Connecticut in 1746 to Stephen and Patience Douglass.

Described a typically nineteenth century in detail. The two chimneys have wide ends to the roof. The cornice has a heavy overhang with fine mouldings. There is a 4 window front, 6/6 sash. 3 later peaked dormers. Casements are wide and plain.

The interior has the two front rooms are very plain, the old parlour being the more elaborate and having a delicately moulded cornice and an elaborate mantel. The back room or old kitchen was wainscoted with paneling of the sunken type. The stairway at present is of the central hall type. Very plain construction on second story.

Richard died in 1852 in Chillicote, Ohio, and so presumably was no longer a resident.
