Charles Douglas-Pye, Esq. of Rosehall, in the
county of Lanark, was a general in the army.
Born in Berkshire,
he was the fourth son of Charles Pye, of Farringdon, Berkshire, High Sherriff of Berkshire
in 1767, and Ann Mainwaring.
He married. first, Mary, daughter of
Oliver Colt, esq. of Auldhame, by Helen, his wife, daughter of the
seventh Lord Blantyre; and secondly,
Catherine Douglas, of the Mains
family, in Dumbartonshire. On this lady inheriting a property of the
late Duchess of Douglas, General Pye assumed the additional surname of
Douglas. Rosehall was, at about this time, renamed
Douglas Support.
He was appointed Cornet In the 3rd Dragoons, 31st Dec, 1782; Lieut.,
9th Jan.. 1786; Capt., 24th Aug., 1792; Major by Brevet, 1st March,
1794; Lieut.-Col., 1st Jan., 1798 serving in England, Scotland
(Hamilton) and Ireland; Colonel, 25th April, 1808;
Major-General, 4th June, 1811; Lieut.-General, 19th July, 1821; and
General, 28th June, 1838.
General Charles Pye of Gartsherrie was
a Deputy Lieutenant for the Country of Lanark in 1831 or 1832.
Lt. Gen. Charles Pye-Douglas of Douglas Support was, in 1836, a Tax
Commissioner for the County of Lanark

Douglas died at his residence, Rosehall, N.B. on 14th May 1844
