Charles Douglas-Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Selkirk

 

Charles (2nd Earl of Selkirk) Douglas-Hamilton was born 3 FEB 1661/62, and died 13 MAR 1738/39 in dsp.

 

He was the son of  William (3rd Duke of Hamilton) Douglas-Hamilton and Anne (Duchess of Hamilton) Hamilton.

 

He was a Gentleman of the Bedchamber to King William III, King George I and George, Prince of Wales, later King George II.

 

In 1713, he went to France on his mother's behalf to pursue her claims to the Dukedom of Châtellerault, and in July 1714 it was agreed to compound these claims for a lump sum of 500,000 livres, which was never paid.

 

He was succeeded by his younger brother, John, 4th son of William, 3rd Duke of Hamilton.
