A Wee Bit of Scotland in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Nestled in the heart of Western North Carolina, this annual celebration brings the spirit of Scotland to life in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Visitors who are given Ceud mile failte - a hundred thousand welcomes - experience a taste of the Scottish Highlands without leaving the United States at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games.

Once again, as the games celebrated their 50th anniversary, thousands flocked to MacRae Meadows to immerse themselves in a world of tartan, bagpipes, and athletic feats. The air was filled with the rhythmic cadence of drums and the haunting melodies of traditional Scottish music while the clans competed in a variety of Highland games, from heavy athletics to dancing.

Beyond the competitions, visitors explored a vibrant marketplace offering authentic Scottish merchandise, savoured traditional cuisine, and enjoyed live entertainment. Families delighted in the cultural experiences, from learning about Scottish history to trying on traditional attire.

Whether you have Scottish heritage or simply appreciate rich cultural traditions, the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games provided a memorable experience.
