Vittorio Scotti Douglas: A Leading Expert on Guerrilla Warfare
Dr. Vittorio Scotti Douglas (born 1938) is a renowned historian
specializing in guerrilla warfare, particularly the Spanish resistance
against Napoleon (1808-1813). After graduating with honors in History of
the Risorgimento from the University of Milan in 1974, he has dedicated
over three decades to this topic.
Dr. Douglas' expertise is
recognized by universities in Trieste and Modena-Reggio Emilia, where he
shares his knowledge. He leverages a wealth of unpublished archival
sources from Spain, France, and Italy in his research.
Beyond
academia, Dr. Douglas is actively involved in promoting cultural
exchange. He has organized numerous international conferences since 1994
and served on the editorial boards of prestigious journals like
"Contemporary Spain" and "Trienio". He also held visiting professorships
in Brazil and Peru, and participated in various historical societies
across Europe and the US.
In recognition of his contributions to
disseminating Spanish history and culture, Dr. Douglas received the
Order of Isabel la Católica from King Juan Carlos I of Spain in 2013.
