They came into New Orleans and boarded the steamer ship Neptune which was bound for st. Louis MO. It made port in chester IL. There they were met by Arthur Mead where the children and women stayed for a few days. James, Alexander and Samuel went on to Grand CoateThere they stayed with Samuel Holliday which is a name that appears often in Ireland. Elizabeth and Rachel Holliday were the women. Rachel eventually married one of the Douglas males.
