2. | Jeremy Ulick (11th Marquess Sligo) Browne (1.Denis1) was born on 4 Jun 1939; died on 13 Jul 2014 in Westport House, Co Mayo. Notes:
He was a descendant of the famous pirate queen Grace O'Malley and was custodian of his family's ancestral home, Westport House, one of the finest large houses in Ireland still in private hands. The Brownes were one of the Tribes of Galway, fourteen merchant families who dominated political, commercial and social life in the city of Galway from the 13th century to the late Victorian era.
Lord Sligo is survived by his wife Jennifer, nee Cooper, only daughter of Major Derek Cooper MC, of Dunlewey, Gweedore, Co Donegal, by his first wife Pamela Armstrong-Lushington-Tulloch (who married secondly Cyril Heber-Percy), first daughter of Kinmount Willie Armstrong-Lushington-Tulloch, of Shanbolard, Moyard, Co Galway, and by their five daughters.
In 1993 he introduced a private members' bill in the Oireachtas, the Irish parliament, to vary the terms of the family trust to benefit his daughters. Curiously, he also changed his name by deed poll to Jeremy Ulick Browne Altamont.
He is succeeded in the marquessate by his first cousin Sebastian Browne (b. 1964), a great-grandson of the 5th Marquess.
Jeremy married Jennifer Jane Lushington Cooper on 26 Oct 1961. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
