Notes |
- Edmund Rutledge Boots, II was born 8 September 1899. He married 5 July 1913, Mary MOORE. They resided in Maine in the summer, and in Vero Beach, Florida during the winter. They had one adopted daughter.
The following account of Edmund R. Boots is excerpted from the Vero Beach, Florida "Press-Journal", Sunday, February 8, 1976:
"He is the man who conceived the sabecon reef, a hollow concrete structure which would attract the reefbuilding sabellariids and, if placed parallel to the wave crest of the damaging northeast winds, would prevent erosion and actually build the beach in front of it.
"Boots' inventiveness and knack for promoting his conceptions have served him well in the past. The 86-year-old inventor was responsible for the traffic light, the reflectors on all motor vehicles and highways and a nylon fastener, nylok, used all over the world - and even out of this world on the moon buggy.
"His life has been as versatile as it has been successful. He competed against Jim Thorpe in college athletics, shared ideas with Thomas Edison and during his career was a partner of General Motors, a consultant to Dupont and assistant to the present of U. S. Steel."
