Notes |
- Said to be of Scottish origin
By 1670s he was closely associated with Newcastle's company of Hostmen, intimately connected with coal mining.
Town Clerk of Newcastle 27 Sep 1699 - 13 Apr 1709, resigning in favour of his son, Joshua. He was involved in the introduction of the town's water supply.
He made a fortune as an attorney, in Newcastle, and acquired a number of estates, amongst them Matfen which he bought from the Carnaby family between 1680 and 1702.
- (Research):It is suggested that one of the 'younger siblings' might be Archibald, known as Lord Archibald, the progenitor of the Pennsylvania family.
