- William Douglas, son of George, member 1784, and Margaret Come, was born in the City of New York in the year 1794. He became associated in business with his brother George, remained a bachelor, accumulated a fortune, and apparently lived a quiet, retired life for many years at 28 Park Place. He died May 29, 1863, at his residence, 100 West 14th Street, in his sixty-ninth year. His nephew William Proctor Douglas received the bulk of his fortune, which in 1845 was estimated at $700,000.
