OBITUARY: "MRS. ELIZABETH MILLER
Elizabeth, daughter of John and Elizabeth Southern, was born in Gilescounty, Virginia, March 23, 1820. She moved with her parents toTipton, Iowa, in 1840. In January, 1841, she was married to FloydDuncan, and the same year they moved to Duncan township, Mercercounty, Illinois. To them were born three children, Elizabeth E.Pullen, John B. and Jasper. It was but a few years till a dark cloudof sorrow spread over this pioneer home, and the beloved husband andfather was called to rest. August 20, 1840 (? 1848), she was marriedto Michael Miller. To them were born Charles Madison, Theodore C.,Mercer Pulaski, Emma Jane, Walter A., Terrecie (Theresa) and Stephen.Of her children, two preceded her to the other shore, Charles, whodeparted this life in 1865 and Emma in 1886. Two, Pulaski andWalter, reside in Nebraska, the others being residents of Mercercounty. Of five brothers and eight sisters, three brothers surviveher, the eldest living near the old homestead in Virginia, theyoungest in the State of Washington, and Charles Southern, who livesnear Viola, Mercer County, Illinois. For many years, she had been afaithful follower of the beloved Master, working in her quiet, earnestway, always attentive to the appropriate service, always ready tominister to any who might need help or sympathy. But the kindly voiceis silent, and the soothing hand is still. She has gone to the rewardof the faithful, to meet those who have gone before, to welcome thosewho follow in the footsteps of the Blessed Master. Elizabeth Millerdeparted this life September 13, 1896, aged 76 years, 5 months, and 21days. Funeral services were held from the L.D.S. church, Sept. 14, at2 p.m., and interment was made in the Millersburg Cemetery."[Transcribed 14 June 2008, SLJuhl, Compiler]
