  He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) He was awarded the White Cross of the Spanish Naval Order of Merit. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bury St. Edmunds between 1906 and 1907. He succeeded as the 4th Marquess of Bristol [U.K., 1826] on 7 August 1907, as the 4th Earl Jermyn of Horningsheath, Suffolk [U.K., 1826] on 7 August 1907, as the 9th Baron Hervey of Ickworth, Suffolk [E., 1703] on 7 August 1907 and as the 8th Earl of Bristol [G.B., 1714] on 7 August 1907. He was president of the Institute of Naval Architects between 1911 and 1916.2
