- William Douglas and John More Douglas were both made bankrupt in Liverpool in 1841 when their company, Douglas, Brothers and Company ran into financial difficulties.
The company was linked to Messers Douglas, McKenzie and Co of Singapore which sued Douglas, Anderson & Co, their London agents, which then went bankrupt in 1936.
Douglas, Brothers and Co. had a branch in Batavia.
