- On the outbreak of war with Germany in 1914, he obtained a commission in the Royal Horse Guards and fought at Flanders 19 october - 5th December in the first battle of Ypres.
Then by his own wish he transferred to the Royal Naval Volunteer reserve and went to the Dardenelles with a squadron of Armoured Motor Cars. With his machine guns in the S.S. River Clyde he helped to cover landing of troops of the 29th Division at Seddel Bahr on Sunday 25th April 1915. In his own words 'The greatest day of my life'.
He landed and seven days later at dawn on Sunday 2nd May he gave his life for his Country and was bured where he fell.
His family and Friends mourn him.
