- Died unmarried according to the Scots Peerage. 2 However , a pedigree prepared by Clive Martin Douglas, a descendant of William Douglas's brother, David, shows William as marrying an Elizabeth Spencer in 1718 and having six children.36However, as William's parents only married in 1705 this would not appear to be correct especially given the mention of William in James Boswell as outlined below.."Article from James Boswell siteWilliam Douglas.
