Notes |
- Bartholomew Long died in 1800 in Newberry County, leaving his wife, Mary Catherine Minnick Long with three babies. His three sons (George Bartholomew, John Jacob and John Thomas) were almost 4 years old, 2 years old and 10 months old at thier father's death.
Catherine Minnick Long was about 35 years old when Bartholomew died and she married Philip Gruber after the death of Bartholomew.
Catherine and Phillip Gruber had a daughter who married Henry Smith.
It is possible that Catherine married a third time to a Cromer.
The Estate of Bartholomew Long shows that Catherine had trouble getting money from the Estate and had to petition the courts for money each year for support and schooling of the three sons. The Estate papers indicate that the sons were educated for $15.00 per year each. The sons were not deeded their father's land until about 10 years after his death. 150 acres on the North side of Camping Creek was deeded to the three sons of Bartholomew Long
The Estate of Bartholomew Long lists property: ......Horses and furniture, His apparel, Horned Cattle, Sheep & Swine, Plows and Implements, Anvill and Balles, Crops gathered - fodder and corn and cotton, Flour and Brandy.
The line continues with Thomas Long.
