ADAMS FAMILIES OF SOUTHERN KENTUCKY, DOROTHY GRIFFITH & ROBERT E.PARKIN, 1986, PG. 156; FAMILY # 2151, ZACHARIAH ADAMS (1760-1825)
ZACHARIAH ADAMS, a soldier in the 10th infantry of the North CarolinaContinental Line during the Revolution, was born about 1760,apparently the eldest son of Moses and Ann (Handy) Adams. This familydoes not appear in Wilkes County until about 1786, when Moses Adamsbought 100 acres on Swan Creek (Wilkes Deeds Cl:197 from JohnTurnbull). This land as well as Briar and Hunting Creeks are in thesoutheastern part of Wilkes, south of Yadkin River, where the borderwith Surry County was unsettled. As a result, Zachariah does notappear on Wilkes tax lists while Moses paid poll taxes in 1787 on SwanCreek and in 1791 on Briar Creek. Although, neither is counted in the1787 Census, both are enumerated in 1790 (Wilkes Census 1790:123),Zachariah on Swan Creek with his wife, two sons and a daughter andMoses on Briar Creek with his wife, seven sons (one over sixteen yearsof age) and four daughters. A short time later, it appears, Zachariahand perhaps some of his brothers left for Kentucky.
On February 2, 1795 (Wilkes Deed D:161), Moses Adams assigned his100-acre farm to his wife, Ann. However, this deed was not recordeduntil April 1797, indicating a date for Mose's death. Widow Ann Adamsis counted in the 1800 Census of Wilkes with only two sons remainingat home. One probably was John Adams who was married a couple ofyears later to Ann Hundley. They remained in Wilkes County.
By 1795, Zachariah Adams and his family settle in Pulaski county,Kentucky. His wife died there in 1803, and on March 27, 1804 (PulaskiMR), he married Jane Clonch, widow of Christopher Clonch. They had nochildren. Zachariah Adams died in 1825, about sixty-five years old."
