Notes |
- "In reference to Frederick Fox having been born at sea: it seems veryunlikely as his father and family arrived in Philadelphia, Pa. on the27th of Sept 1752, aboard the ship "Anderson," Hugh Campbell, Capt.and took the oath of allegiance to the King on that date. This isfrom the book of passenger list of Pennsylvania German Pioneers, page488, list # 184c. No record of John Frederick Fox and family has beenfound prior to 1762, other then the above. However, Maryland landrecords from the Maryland Archives file # BC & Gs 40-114, showing aland survey of Grimms Fancy, states that said land ran near John Fox'shouse on the West side of South Mountain. Survey is dated 27 Feb1764. this is the location of what became known as Fox's Inn (Tavern)at Fox's Gap, near Middletown, Md. Frederick Fox sold this property in1807, just before going to Ohio. Also, Daniel G. Fox stated in thegenealogy book that Frederick Fox had his birth listed as 10 May1751-Hesse-Cassel, Prussia in the family Bible. FrederickFox/Catherine Booker's 4th child, the first son, George Booker Fox ismy direct ancestor: per William E. Fox of Grant, MI. 49327-9637; 13Dec 1994". [Transcribed by, SLJuhl, 03 June 2005]
The "Fox Inn" was visited by General and President George Washington. There is a Pitcher that George Washington drank from still available.Fox Inn still existed in the 1940's and was located on South Mountainnear Middletown, Maryland. It is still standing and has family livingin it.
