- Sir Doctor Robert Whittington, Lord Of Pauntley, inherited the familyestates from his father Sir Knight William III, and was sixty eightyears old at the time of his death. He was Sheriff of Gloucestershirein 1402-3. There is only one son, Guy, known of to carry on thefamily line. Sir Robert's brother became very wealthy and famous inLondon, England as the Lord Mayor of London, but had no children.Both brothers were living in Gloucestershire at the time of theirdeaths. They must have remained close as brothers through their lifetimes.
At this point in time there is not too much known about Sir Robert.We can surmise though that he and his family did live out their livesin the Shire in comfort, because his son Sir Guy did inherit thefamily estates, and his brother Sir Richard, with his extreme wealth,must have felt that there was ample means in the family estatesalready due to the fact that Sir Richard did not leave any inheritancethat we know of to his only family member and nephew Sir Guy.
