Notes |
- From Abstract of Session Minutes
Gilchrist Memorial Presbyterian Church
Town of Kortright, Delaware County New York
3 November 1806 - 2 October 1865
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nydelawa/sokortse.html
GIBSON, William 19 May 1836, acknowledged his guilt to a charge of intemperance
and was sentenced to be publicly rebuked; 30 May 1837, was suspended from church
privileges because of intoxication; 21 Sep 1837 he failed to attend a meeting of the
Session as requested; 4 Jun 1838, acknowledged the "Sin of Intoxication" and was
sentenced to be publicly rebuked
(This could have been William Jr.)
It is likely that William Gibson came to the US in 1834 with his son Adam. See notes for James A. Gibson.

Todd,
Very interesting. Did you find the information on the Whigam/ Whicham's on
the Delaware Co site/ Either in the Biog. Review or Munsell's History I
remember seeing something about the family coming to DelCo from Dutchess
County. I think there were also some buried in Delco that would predate our
Gibsons' arrival, yet Jame's bio says he and his wife came from N. Ireland.
I could be wrong but something sticks in my memory about cemetery records.
Deborah Sweet (her greatgrandfather Wright married my grandfather Gibson's
sister) told me her Wright family came from Newry, Armagh, which is possibly
where the Gibsons originated. It seems as though there were Newry people in
Kortright.
Best regards,
Catherine

I think I've gotten the Gibsons narrowed down to Moneyslane, Drumgooland Parish, County Down. Someone on line told me that LDS has a microfilm for the Presbyterian Church there. When I have a chance I'll drop in at our local LDS Family History Center. I found my mother's family there very quickly.
