  William Hamilton, M.D., was educated in Princeton University, University of Virginia, and became an MD in 1850. He later did graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Hamilton then became a physician at the Western Lunatic Asylum, at Staunton, which position he held until a few years before his death. He never married, and died 20 January 1889, at his farm near Fishersville, and is buried at Tinkling Spring Church. He was the Guardian of William Hamilton Clarke, after the death of Dr. William Clarke.
