The following deed recorded in Greene County establishes not only the relationship above, but also states that John Mathews resided in Greene County, Georgia, at the time of his death.
Recorded in Deed Book "GG", at page 328, of the records of Greene County, Georgia, is the following:
"Georgia
Greene County
"We George G. Mathews, Archer Mathews by my Attorney in fact George G. Mathews & Ephraim Pharr by my Attorney in fact George G. Mathews, do hereby promise & obligate ourselves to pay to Adaline Harrison, daughter of Benjamin Harrison & Jane his wife formerly Jane Mathews the sum of Sixteen Hundred Dollars when she the said Adaline comes of age or marries but if she the said Adaline should die before she attains the age of twenty one years or the marriage of the said Adaline then the promise & obligation to be null & void. And provided also should the said Adaline attain the age of twenty one years or marry the said sum of sixteen hundred dollars shall not be due & payable untill the said Adaline or her husband & the said Adaline (should she marry as aforesaid) shall release & forever quit claim by deed to the said George G Mathews, Archer & Ephraim All the right title & interest which she the said Adeline now has or her husband should she marry in his right shall or may have for a certain tract of land lying in said County of Greene on the Oconee River Containing eleven hundred and fifty five acres & six tenths of an acres whereon John Mathews late of said County lived at the time of his death. This promise & obligation being in full consideration of all the right & interest which the said Adeline has or is supposed to have in the said land.
