- George Mathews was born 25 May 1780, in Greenbrier County, Virginia (now West Virginia), and died in 1826. He married 8 March 1803, in Greenbrier County, Elizabeth McCLUNG, daughter of James McCLUNG and Nancy DICKENSON. She was born 15 March 1783. They are both buried in the Old Stone Church Cemetery in Lewisburg, West Virginia. Their children were as follows.
