In the 1850 & 1860 Federal U.S. Census Jesse Elkins gives his birthplace as Virginia and Tennessee respectfully. Perhaps he was unsureof where he was born, but it would also indicate that he may not havebeen born in Kentucky. This does mean that more research on his birthplace is required, and that Pulaski County, Kentucky cannot be givenas his true place of birth as yet. the only thing we can be certainof is where he died. I am still in the process of working on this family, and from what Ihave listed the birth dates are census record details. Zachariahthen is listed in the census records living near the families inIndiana. Obviously, since they were the first settlers in that areaof Indiana, it wouldn't be much of a leap to put them all together. Iagreed with her findings so far since, I believe, it's quite feasiblethat Jesse & Nancy would have a son named Zachariah since that wasNancy's father's name also. Mother must have thought so as well.
Mother (Joyce Lorraine Clore Elkins) left me lots of records and onthe first Family Group Sheet that she did, Zachariah was included witha question mark, along with his birth date and marriage to ElizabethTadlock. I went ahead and added him to the family until I've had thetime to do the research on all of them on the computer and at ourlocal genealogy library. Mother already has some census records doneon the family, but of course a great deal more needs to be done yet.
Three of Mother's big sources were the Elkins Eagle (which I haveevery copy of), Carol Stultz through personal correspondence, and theCensus records, plus land records, and more... without the aid of thecomputer, and she researched for 30 + years on the Elkins family.Etc...."

I was interested in your inclusion of Zachariah Elkins as a son ofJesse Elkins and Nancy Adams. I was considering the possibilitymyself, but had no hard evidence. What made you place Zachariah inthis family??
Zachariah is my g-g-g-grandfather.
