WALTER WARRING GEVERT
HONESDALE: Walter Warring Gevert of Honesdale, a retired worker for Mother’s Laundry, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 23, 2002 at home. He was 89.
Son of the late Charles and Bessie Warring Gevert, he was born in Welcome Lake. He was the widower of his first wife, Ruth Fleming Gevert.
He graduated from Welcome Lake and Beach Lake schools. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Honesdale.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Atkinson Gevert; three daughters, Beverly Horst and husband Kenneth of Cold Spring, Marjorie Stone of Farmington, MI and Linda Hopkins and husband Paul of Rileyville; three step-children, Thomas Atkinson and wife Margaret of Honesdale, Carol Irwin and husband Robert of Honesdale and Gerald Atkinson and wife Susan of Honesdale; a sister, Rita Moore of Beach Lake; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great great grandson, eight step-grandchildren; and three great step-grand children; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Wallace and Clarence Gevert, six sisters, Jessie Rice, Ethel Frey, Hazel Thomas, Ruth Gevert, Esther Olver and an infant sister; a grandson, Wallace Horst and step-granddaughter, Jodi Irwin.
Services were held in the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home in Honesdale. Burial was in Indian Orchard Cemetery.
