Notes for Thomas North:
Research: There is a North family genealogy at the LDS center in NYC. This is probably the right Thomas, however, this Thomas also had five brothers, and one of their sons could possibly be the father of this Mary. I only have the one line from John, the immigrant from Yorkshire. Both the Newells and the Norths are all of Farmington, although the Newells could have come from Hartford or Wethersfield, as did most of the settlers of Farmington.
Children of Thomas North and Hannah Newell are:

2642. Richard Bidwell, born 1587 in County Devon, ENG; died December 25, 1647 in Windsor, CT.
Notes for Richard Bidwell:
Bidwell is an old Saxon name, Bidduelf, which means "War Wolf" (battle wolf).Richard Bidwell came from England on the "Mary and John", commanded by Capt. Squeb, which left Plymouth, England in March of 1630.
The ship carried 140 men and women, who had been selected and assembled largely through the efforts of Reverend John White, of Dorchester, England and had come from the western counties of Devonshire, Dorsetshire, and Somerset. They had chosen to ministers to accompany them, both men who were interested in bringing the gospel to the Native inhabitants of the New World; Rev. John Maverick, an elderly man from Devon, and Rev. John Warham, both ordained in the established Church of England.
A dispute with Captain Squeb caused them to abandon their original plan to land in the Charles River, and the whole company was put ashore at Nantasket. The Mary and John was the first of the fleet of 1630 to arrive in Boston Harbor, and the captain probably did not want to risk navigating the uncharted channel. After some exploring in small boats, they finally settled at Matapan, which they named Dorchester, in honor of the home town of the Rev. White.
They stayed there five or six years, and after the smallpox plague had decimated the Indians in Connecticut, they removed to Suckiage (Harford), sending their goods by ship, and walking overland through the wilderness. They departed in October, 1637, arriving so late that winter came upon them unprepared. By November 15, the cold was so intense the river froze solid, and by December 1, their food ran out. The spectre of famine and death haunted their future.
