Subject: Re: [CASE mail list] William Case of NY/ Lyn
I am looking for Gabriel Case who bought land in Macomb county MI, in 1837. He resided in Livingston co. NY before coming to MI. So far, I have put together a family group that I believe are his children. They include Mary
Case who married Hiram Marquet, Laura Ann Case who married Luther B. Woodard, Clarissa Case who married Benjamin Hocknell, and perhaps Emanuel Case who married Cloey Barton-all of these marriages occurred in Macomb co., MI.
There is also an Alonzo Case who may be a son, but is not the Alonzo Case who appears in Kent Co., MI. I think that Gabriel's brother may be Sterling Case and perhaps another brother named William I. Case. Another brother and or perhaps a son, could be Richard Case. While I have sent for as many government documents as possible and am still waiting for them, my process of elimination has tied the above people together. Other factors are mentions in history books of Macomb co., MI and the path of migration across MI from Macomb to Jackson to Hillsdale counties as well as census that show these people living in close proximity to each other as well as
various census showing an Alonzo living with two "sisters" at different times. This whole thing gets tricky because another Case (Margaret who may also be Gabriel's daughter) goes on to marry Orel C. Warriner ca.
1851. In the end her daughter married the son of Clarrisa Case and Benjamin Hocknell-which brings us to the possibility that both of my paternal third great grandmothers were actually sisters! Census support this
theory-but until I get the documents that is all I have to go on right now. In the process I have researched both Calvin Case and your William Case-mostly due to their presence in Hillsdale county and the fact that they are
living near my Case's. I had also found a Horace Case living near Sterling Case in the 1820 Leicester, Genesee (later Livingston co), NY which also prompted my search on Horace. I don't know if this is your Horace or not, but
would be happy to send you that info as well.
