- Popular rumour said that he was the son of Sir George by Queen Mary, but no proof has ever been adduced for the statement.
Also, Robert Douglas, 'the famous Presbyterian divine', is said to have been a grandson of Mary Queen of Scots, through a child born by her to George Douglas, younger of Lochleven, while she suffered confinement in that castle.
In 1689, he went, being a Jacobite, with King James to France.
In 1694. he was a lieutenant in the French army and naturalized as a French citizen.
in 1715. He took part in the Jacobite rising.
Or is he the 2nd son of John Alexander Douglas, 1627-1692, and Elizabeth Menzie?
