He was educated at Cabel College, Oxford. Awarded the William Bolitho Gold Medal by the Royal Geological Society of Cornwall in 1939. He was a fellow of the Geological Society of London. aological consultant to Anglo Persian oil company. from 1924. a foreign member of the Peruvian Geological Society served in the Gordon Hounders in France in 1914 Second to the Royal Engineers 172 tunneling company in 1915 and to the Royal Engineers headquarters Chatham as instructor in tunneling. in World War Two he served in the home guard as a commanding officer of the 6th Oxford City Battalion. after retirement, he lived in the Isle of Wight.
