Dutcher Beef Street South from Howlett Hill about a mile is Mud pond. Not far from Mud pond is Beef street. Big men came from Beef street. Charles Gunn was 65 years old when he died October 10, 1845, and was buried in Howlett Hill cemetery. He was born in 1780, and was one of the early settlers of the town of Onondaga. As a young man he was a post rider carrying the mails, one of the first in the country. He rode a horse and blew a trumpet when he neared the place where he was to leave the mail. He was away from home for two weeks at a time. Charles Gunn lived and died in Beef street.
